The Cocoon

Like a caterpillar, I spun myself in A cocoon of silk and solitude, A sanctuary from the shattered world That raged outside my chrysalis.
As the rains fell and ceased to pour, I shed my old self like a discarded skin, Feeling out of place in a world That no longer fit me as it had before.
Yet within me burned a flickering flame, A fiery desire for change and growth, A raging inferno that consumed me whole, Burning away my fears and doubts.
Until at last the rains ceased to fall, The storms relented, and a new dawn broke, Revealing a world both strange and wondrous, Full of beauty and possibility.
And from my cocoon emerged A being more beautiful and brilliant than before, A glorious butterfly, free and unfettered.
